Every year, the EES provides young people with an insight into the world of science, engineering and technology. This invaluable experience enables students to make a more informed career decision through a better understanding of the opportunities available in science, engineering and technology.
The following sections provide more information about the Engineering Education Scheme in England & Scotland.
How does it work?
A professional engineer from a link company/organisation, works with a team of 4 students and their teacher on a real engineering problem, over a period of 6 months.
The EES is a prestigious work experience scheme. Students get in-depth, hands on experience of engineering, design and research at a professional level, and gain experience of problem solving, team working, presentation skills and project management.
The project lasts around 6 months and includes the following special events:
- Company visit to see the project in context
- Scheme launch
- Regional university Residential Workshop (RW)
- Minimum of 3 days at a university or similar venue to utilise the facilities and progress the project
- Celebration and Assessment Day (CAD)

Teachers' Professional Development
Accreditation of Engineering Education Scheme in England & Scotland (EES) Teachers by the College of Teachers (CoT).

There are two levels of accreditation available;
1. Associate of the College of Teachers (ACoT)
2. Certificate of Educational Studies (CoES)

Benefits
It is possible that an AcoT could contribute towards an MA or Med and the CoT would be happy to provide transcript to help teachers gain a degree of remission. The CoT were successful in 60 cases last year.
The CoES is a useful addition to a CV and provides evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Testimonials
"As well as gaining confidence from the presentation and public speaking aspects of the scheme, I was able to transfer the skills I developed during the experience to my A levels and engineering degree course at Aston University."
Robin Sharphouse (former EESE student)
"Following my EESE project, I worked for the same company during my school holidays and when the time came to go to university, they offered me sponsorship. I started my first job as Production Engineer a week before my graduation with my EESE/sponsor company."
