Since 1984 the Engineering Education Scheme in England & Scotland has provided more than 17,000 young people with a head start in their careers. The EES has a highly professional and dedicated team that delivers a quality experience for these students.
The scheme allows students to gain hands-on experience of a real technical problem. Working with a company engineer the team of 4 develops solutions to that challenge and en-route enhances their existing skills and also develops new ones; skills that will help them at university and which are sought after by graduate recruiters.
Alan Curtis took part in the EES in 1999/2000 working on a project with JCB, he studied Mechanical Engineering at Loughborough and is now employed as a Research Engineer at JCB, mentoring an EES team in the West Midlands this year.
“I hope that I will be able to transmit my enthusiasm and learning experiences to my EES team and encourage them to pursue a career in engineering. I am a firm believer that in order to make the best decisions in life, we must know what our options are. The EES opened my eyes to engineering as an option, and I hope I can do the same for others.
The hands-on experience students get in their six month project phase is enhanced through the University Residential Workshop and the Celebration and Assessment Day(CAD) which are important elements of the EESE. With 96% and 97% of students highly rating the University Residential Workshop and CAD (respectively).
And that’s not all…
90% of EES students submitted their EES project for a BA Gold CREST Award and were successful.
The EES shows these students that engineering is diverse, stimulating and challenging thus investing in the future of British industry and professional engineering.
